Fragments From A Broken World (Sean Hillen)
*Final Weekend* Politics in Northern Ireland is strange enough to create its own absurdist commentary. As an outsider it is seemingly impossible to penetrate and news this week of intense rioting presents yet another barrier to understanding and perhaps, to any compassion at all.
Sean Hillen, photographer and native of the great enigma is equipped with thick enough skin and a humour so dark and cutting that only exposure to the most unrelentingly bleak reality could create, has done something extraordinary here. Presenting photomontages and surreal juxtapositions of everyday life in the North with that of London is both funny and challenging, just like all the best reports from existential battlefields should be. Photomontage is immediate, political and full of protest and in Hillen’s hands, incredibly potent. /
