Dr. Feelgood
Original Dr Feelgood guitarist Wilko Johnson thrilled Dublin fans a while back by fittingly playing the Leeson Lounge. What better tribute to one of the true originals of the 1970s' English pub rock scene than brown velveteen alcoved seating, yellowing flock wallpaper and sticky beer-stained carpet. Now, his former band are in town to play the equally sticky Whelan's. They're a vastly different proposition today than in their heyday, due to the departure first of inimitable individualist Johnson, then the death of singer Lee Brilleaux and many more line-up changes since (Julien Temple's celluloid ode Oil City Confidential tells their full story). But the current act's live performances are still high-octane rhythm and blues, hit parade affairs. Right, who's for some Milk & Alcohol then? / Maisie
