Interview with the cover designer
Sean Jackson - Covers Comp Winner #5
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is
Sean Jackson and I am a Dublin based photographer.
Tell us more about this cover
The cover is a photograph of actress
Natalia Kostrzewa. It was part of an abstract, sun light story called Extinction and was beautifully styled by Ali Lynch.
How do you create your stuff?
Ideas come to me at any time and from anywhere, but most that stick with me come in the very early mornings while walking my dog on the beach or in the park. I'm from the West (Westport) so I need my fix of nature in the morning here in the shmoke.
The next stage is pulling a team together. Collaborating is a joy when egos are forgotten so communication is open and flows easily and ideas can really develop. At least some elements of chance are also very important to me and all of my favourite photographs have let chance in in some delicate or dangerous way.
Where can we see more of your work?
You can see more of my work on my website www.seanjackson.ie
Dream Commission?
My dream commission would be an extensive, un-styled fashion-portrait series of tribal women and men in their own vicinities all over Africa and perhaps beyond. It would be the very first time that National Geographic & Vogue Italia have jointly commissioned a project.......(well you said dream)
Who should design the next cover?
There are so many to choose from.... I love some of Portobello based Danilo Quo Vadis' wild, expressionist murals and would love to see what he'd come up with for a cover. The right still from Terry Erraught's performance pieces would also be very cool.
